Tim Breitmar
Tim's special strength lies in his creative and visionary imagination. Through various "enlightenment experiences" that simply came over him at some point in his life and have turned it upside down ever since, he has developed a fundamental sense for the infinity of life.
Tim can look at an ordinary water bottle and instantly the vast infinity of developmental steps that had to happen for this bottle to now stand on his table opens up to him: from our ancestors' wish to transport water, through the development of plastic, all the way to the emergence of entire marketing agencies dedicated to marketing this exact brand of water. The more intensely Tim focuses on a single thing, the more new infinities appear before him in his imagination.
Building on these insights, Tim has developed a mathematical meta-theory called 0nefinity. The name is built from the words 0 (zero), one and infinity. At its core, his theory states that zero, one and infinity are identical. They are the basic operators our universe is built from. On his website 0nefinity.love he finds infinitely many ways to prove the statement that zero, one and infinity are identical. A line, for example, is nothing other than a single, infinitely long point entirely without width, depth or curvature, so that within it one, infinity and zero coincide. A line is therefore, in a sense, "one infinite nothing".
With this he has packed his rather spiritually shaped enlightenment experiences into a mathematical framework of thought and then brought the whole thing to life on his website like a kind of art project.
But he doesn't stop at processing his experiences mathematically and artistically. Through the insight that he himself is likewise infinite and feels connected to everything, he has begun to shape a kind of new philosophical school of thought: pragmatic non-dualism.
His thought:
If I have understood that I am zero, one and infinity, then that means I am the world and I am all of humanity. And if I am all of humanity, then I should probably make sure that everyone, meaning me, meaning everyone, is doing well. If I know I am the infinite nothing, I could also just stop, but why not create paradise for everyone out of nothing instead?
And so, out of this realization, he has very concretely begun to set pragmatic developments for a beautiful world in motion. His visionary imagination serves him well here. For every conceivable problem, infinitely many creative, out-of-the-box solutions come to him.
The projects he is currently working on alongside 0nefinity focus thematically in particular on the energy and chemical industries, on political developments, a global sense of community, or creative inventions for everyday life. Here is an incomplete list of current projects:
- On Capfossil.org he argues that we could solve a large part of the climate problem almost immediately with a single trick: a global law that limits the extraction of fossil fuels to a remaining budget oriented on the budget we have left until the 1.5-degree limit is reached. So far, the focus in political discussions is often on regulating CO2 emissions (i.e. the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil) and hoping that we manage to bring them down far enough. But what is not allowed to be taken out of the ground can never be burned later. So the solution starts one step earlier in the chain. One global political decision, and we would know we had stopped climate change relatively safely. (There are a few other factors, but CO2 emissions make up the overwhelming majority of the problem.) This also makes it visible that our problem is not the lack of a technical solution, but that the political situation is steered by actors who put their economic and political interests above the survival of entire nations and knowingly accept the end of many human lives. So this project, too, ultimately comes back to the global sense of unity that Tim has discovered within himself and that our world community urgently needs.
- With defosil.com Tim is working on a project to develop our industry in a fossil-free direction. Packaging, paints, medical products... almost everything is based on plastic made from crude oil. Tim has recognized how important it is for us to become independent of fossil fuels in the future, but he has also recognized that, as a society, we can't and don't want to give up plastic that quickly. Technical solutions already exist, because ironically there have long been processes that can produce, out of CO2, hydrogen and (solar) energy, base chemicals and raw materials from which plastic is made. So in the long term we could make industry fossil-free. That's why Tim is working to make these solutions better known and more attractive to industry. Since really entering the chemical industry is extremely capital-intensive, Tim is looking for people (on this topic in particular, but also for all his projects) who would like to invest, co-found, or support the project financially or in other ways.
- With "#SafeToBurn🔥" Tim has developed a concept in which plastic no longer has to be harmful to the climate but can, on the contrary, support us in the energy transition. He argues: if we produce plastic in a climate-neutral way (as explained above), it takes a lot of solar energy. This means climate-neutral plastic acts like an energy store. During a "dark doldrums" period, when for example there's too little sun and wind in winter to supply Germany, we can burn our collected plastic waste and release the energy again. What used to be harmful to the climate, because plastic came from crude oil, has now become a safe circular product, and we have solved the problem of where and how to store energy in large quantities.
- An idea I find especially funny is the "grid storage on wheels". What if your energy provider gave you a car and made money doing it? Energy providers are building energy storage on a large scale for the energy transition, but that comes coupled with large plots of land, long approval procedures and high costs. The energy provider could save these costs by putting the planned batteries into extra-large electric cars and simply giving them away to the public. The hack: so far cars are optimized for driving, even though they just sit around most of the day. That's why current batteries are far too small. Instead of the 80 kWh battery of a normal electric car, we could install 200 to 300 kWh batteries. People could drive SUVs again, feel good about it, and do so for free, because the energy providers will already have saved a tidy sum anyway. Win-win for everyone.
- Tim is also working on a concept for a global basic income, in which companies can choose to regularly put part of their profit into a shared pot and bequeath it to all of humanity.
- And on top of that, Tim works as an ordinary entrepreneur in the solar industry selling PV systems, because he has realised that we will need a whole lot of solar energy if we want to pull off his chemistry plans. :D
All in all I can say: Tim has a creative imagination that far exceeds mine and surprises and inspires me again and again. No matter which topic I come to him with, Tim is able to penetrate it with particular depth and to develop my thoughts on it even further and "refine" them. To fully grasp the creative potential he offers through his extraordinary perspectives, however, takes a little time and the willingness to truly follow his lines of thought all the way to infinity. 😄
